Moroccan Arabic, known as Darija, is the everyday spoken language of Morocco. It shares its roots with Modern Standard Arabic but differs in sound, rhythm, vocabulary and much of its everyday grammar, and it carries clear Amazigh, French and Spanish influence. Someone who has only studied formal Arabic often struggles in a Casablanca café — not because their Arabic is weak, but because it is a different register.
